The Resistance Units often post videos of themselves daringly marching in groups in public on the streets in Iran, while chanting for an end to the regime.
Such courageous acts of defiance resonate deeply among the Iranian population and shatter the regime’s aura of control over society.
On 18 January 2023, a group of female Resistance Units posted a video of themselves in one of these marches, while chanting: “Death to the Oppressor, be it the Shah or the [Supreme] Leader”.
On 4 March 2023, in the leadup to International Women’s Day, groups of Resistance Units in various Iranian cities, including Tehran, Karaj, and Shahriar held defiant marches, openly chanting in public against the regime.
Their chants included:
“Democracy and freedom, with Maryam Rajavi”
“Courageous Rajavi is the hope of the Iranian people”
“With or without the Hijab, we’re heading for a revolution”
“Down with Khamenei, hail to Rajavi”
“Down with the Oppressor, be it the Shah or the [Supreme] Leader”.
On 9 January 2023, another group of female Resistance Units filmed themselves marching on an overpass in Tehran chanting: “This is your last warning. Anymore executions and there will be an uprising”.
On 8 February 2023, a group of Resistance Units in Tehran held a morning drill to mark the anniversary of the martyrdom of senior members of the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI or MEK). On 8 February 1982, Moussa Khiabani, the MEK’s second-in-command, Ashraf Rajavi, and their comrades, were martyred when their house was attacked by the regime’s Revolutionary Guards.
The Resistance Units’ military-style parade, which was widely viewed by Iranians on social media and via the opposition satellite television channel Simay-e Azadi (Visage of Freedom), sent shivers down the spines of Iranian officials, especially its repressive security forces and the Bassij, and prompted hysterical reaction in Iranian state media.
Between 25-31 March 2023, the Resistance Units continued their anti-regime activities in different cities of Iran.
